Wouldn't think it is a scam. It is quite a novel idea and a good one too.
Unless they start limiting the in-game music, forcing us to buy..

The whole idea is to give us players, more choice and I like that.

Well ok, i have to admit that the free downloadable music is incredibly good...so because of that I retract what I said earlier.

I like the music, it's very good... reminds me of the Daggerfall soundtrack (which is a good thing). Hey terrordactyl, I have a few screenshots of people selling 'GODLY' and 'L33T' weapons in ToA if you want to buy them. 3 for $1!!

----------- EDIT --------------------
Not Daggerfall, I mean Morrowind, and for good reason too. Just looked it up and Soule did the soundtrack for that one as well. That was a great soundtrack, and this sounds awesome too... I may pay for the other pack now

I like the idea of purchasable music. The excellent soundtrack was the main reason why I bought the collector's edition. I would download/buy the "music expansion pack" as well, if it wasn't for the DRM handcuffs attached to it.

Default Could someone rip this to .MP3 or, preferably .OGG?

When someone breaks the DRM, could you please post the .MP3 or,
perferably .OGG files? Thanks. My primary box is _not_ Windoz,
and thus I can't play DRM burdened sound files. If it is free, why don't
they just make it free?

Do not post such a thing here unless you want to see these forums closed and the staff sued into oblivion.

Currently Listening to "Stone Summit" from the new music. I'd really have to agree with Charcoal Ann.

I remeber Jeremy Soule's music from the Hordes of the Underdark expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights... It was amazing, I hope this stuff is as good! (Ill download it after work)

As cool as this music sounds, I can't get the DRM to work for my computer. I tried personal 3 times, and the 2 leases... and every time I select an option I get this.

Contact DirectSong. And make sure you have WinXP and the latest version of Windows Media Player... it says in the FAQ on the DirectSong site that these are both required to play the files.

The DirectSong mini-pak is the music for Sorrow's Furnace. If they added this into the streaming update, it would be huge and take too long for dial-up and low broadband users. This way one can opt to download the music or not, and it gives them a chance to promo DirectSong, obviously.

At the DirectSong homepage, click on the Products link and read the little info blurb regarding Sorrow's Furnace. It's also a good idea to read the FAQ too...

This music is much more involved, and really is 1,000 times better than the current set of default game music...which is boring as hell by the way. This music is much more like the music you heard in the trailers and gameplay movies on the guildwars website, really pretty neat and gives a much better feel to the game.

However, I won't be PAYING for new music in the game, screw that deal.

For the music lovers, 6 dollars for better sampling and a few new tracks was well worth it. Hell, even minimum wage is 6.50 an hour...

I downloaded the music pack and installed it in my music map. When I open it with Windows media player it sounds ok. But in the game I still hear the old music. Should I copy the music map to a game map or something? (I read above that it installs automaticly into GW, yet I only hear the old music there)

It may be good for a computer game music but the tracks all sound the same and definitely wouldn't want to listen to it outside of the game.

it doesnt overwrite you current in game music ... it adds new music ... for new areas ... and also likely some old areas music will be updated ... but Lions Arch should still be playing Lions Arch theme etc.
